Necessary nutritional conditions are not provided to the prisoner with celiac disease

	ŞIRNEX - Prisoner Mehmet Ali Uğur, who was not provided with the necessary nutritional conditions despite his celiac disease, said: "They confiscated our books and do not give us hot water."

	 

	Mehmet Ali Uğur, who was arrested in Şirnex in 2007 for "being a member of a terrorist organization", talked about the rights violations in prison in his weekly phone call with his family. Uğur, a celiac patient in Patnos Type L Closed Prison, said that the pressure on them is increasing day by day.

	 

	'THEY DO NOT PROVIDE FOOD'

	 

	Uğur's mother, Gülistan Demir, stated that practices that are equivalent to torture have been implemented in Patnos Type L Closed Prison. Demir said: “My son was arrested unjustly. When he was arrested, he stayed in Tekirdağ Prison for 8 years. Finally, they took him to Patnos. After being imprisoned, he contracted celiac disease. He could not go on a hunger strike because he has celiac disease. However, his friends are on strike. A person with this disease cannot eat every meal. They don't give him food. The last time he called, he said, 'There is no life in this prison, they confiscated our books, they do not give us hot water, they give us toilet water as drinking water and we are under very heavy pressure.' He cannot eat foods that contain wheat. He is not even allowed to take stuff from the canteen. Ill prisoners has to be released."

	 

	Demir said that everything was forbidden when they went to prison and said: “My son asked us to make their voices heard. I went to the prison for a meeting 2 months ago. I went from here to Patnos and could only see him for 20 minutes. They don't even let us talk comfortably. They insult us and our children. When you enter prison, they undergo a search that will violate human dignity. You cannot take anything with you. My daughter came to the meeting with her baby. Think about it, they didn't even let the baby's pacifier in the baby's mouth. This state has no justice. They say they brought peace, what peace did they bring? Do they give us peace? We struggle rights and justice. Our call to everyone is to protect the prisoners and hear their voices."
