Request of penalty sentence for journalists Çelik and Yayla 2023-04-28 14:14:37   ISTANBUL - The prosecutor, who gave an opinion on the journalists Ferhat Çelik and İdris Yayla, who reported on the detention of the journalists who announced to the public that 2 citizens were thrown from the helicopter in Van, demanded the punishment of the journalists.   The trial of the case, about Mezopotamya Agency licensee Ferhat Çelik and Jiyan News İdris Yayla, who reported on the detention of journalists who announced to the public that Servet Turgut and Osman Şiban, who were detained by soldiers on September 11, 2020, were thrown by soldiers from a helicopter, in Şax (Çatak) district of Wan, were detained with the charge of "Targeting Persons Who Take Part in the Fight Against Terrorism", was held at the Van 2nd High Criminal Court. Journalists and their lawyers who did not attend the hearing made excuses.   PENALTY SENTENCE REQUEST   At the hearing, which was not attended by journalists and their lawyers, the prosecution presented its opinion on the merits. Claiming that Çelik and Yayla did not fulfill their obligations as journalists, the prosecutor claimed that "...while consciously mentioning the name of the institution conducting the investigation was sufficient, the defendants committed the crime against them by reducing the subject of the news even more privately and by exposing the public officer who conducted the investigation, the complainant". The prosecution wanted the journalists to be punished. Announcing its interim decision, the court accepted the lawyers' excuses and postponed the hearing to May 4.
