At least 245 Kurdish women arrested in Iran in a year 2023-03-08 17:26:27   WAN - According to Hengaw's report covering March 8, 2022 and March 8, 2023, at least 245 Kurdish women activists were arrested in Rojhilat, 30 women were sentenced to death and imprisonment, and at least 25 women died as a result of male violence.   Hengaw Human Rights Organization reported the experiences of women in Rojhilat on March 8, International Women's Day. According to the report covering March 8, 2022 and March 8, 2023, at least 245 Kurdish women activists were arrested by the Iranian Regime, and 30 women activists were sentenced to death and imprisonment. In one year, at least 25 women were murdered in different cities of Rojhilat, 5 of them under the name of "honor". The perpetrators of the murdered women were the closest men (wife, ex-wife, brother).   The report shared the following information about the cities where massacres took place: “Eight cases of femicide were recorded in Kermanshah province, 7 cases in Kurdistan, 5 cases in Ilam and 5 cases in Urmia. 10 of the women were killed by their spouses, 7 by their ex-husbands, 4 by their brothers and 2 by their colleagues. The killer of 2 is unknown. 5 cases of 'honour killings' were recorded. 15 cases resulted from family conflicts and 5 cases are unknown.”   77 YEARS PRISON SENTENCE   According to the report, at least 20 women were sentenced by the Iranian judicial system to 77 years and 2 months in prison for political activities. Again, 20 women were sentenced to prison on the grounds that they participated in the protest actions that started and still continue in the country after the murder of Jîna Eminî, and 2 LGBTI+Q activists were sentenced to death.
