Deniz Poyraz Case: We will take the case to higher courts

	İZMİR - Referring to the sentence given to Onur Gencer in the Deniz Poyraz case, Attorney Fatma Demirer said: "The attack was not carried out by only one person. We will continue to fight with society until we get a legal result. We will take this process to the higher courts."

	 

	Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir Provincial Organization held a press conference at the provincial building regarding the "aggravated life sentence" and 9 years in prison sentence in the last hearing of Onur Gencer, who attacked the provincial organization and murdered Deniz Poyraz. A banner was hung in the hall where the statement was made, "The Deniz Poyraz trial will not be over until we say it's over". HDP Batman MP Ayşe Acar Başaran, Deniz Poyraz's family and one of the litigation lawyers Fatma Demirer attended the meeting.

	 

	'WE WILL CARRY THE CASE TO ALL HIGHER COURTS'

	 

	Describing the events since the fifth hearing, Demirer said: "The hundreds of lawyers' right to defense was blocked. No lawyers, including the heads of the bar associations, were allowed into the hall. The trial process continued in our absence. Questions were asked and decisions were made. There is a shooter, the perpetrator, but he cannot have done it alone. There was an illegal trial. As lawyers, we think that this is not the material truth. The court continued to violate the law. We wanted the court board to be changed, but this was not done. The trial time was at ten, but the presiding officer put the instruction file at 11 o'clock, which means that the decision was made beforehand. They were concerned about 'Let's decide, let's get rid of it'. While the file is under the responsibility of the president of the court, he cannot assign the responsibility to someone else. We, as lawyers, will continue our legal struggle. Our struggle will continue until we get a legal result together with society. We will carry this process to all higher courts."
