Decision announced in Deniz Poyraz case 2022-12-27 17:30:13   NEWS CENTER - In the Deniz Poyraz case, who was killed in the attack on the HDP building in İzmir, gunman Onur Gencer was given aggravated life imprisonment and a 9-year sentence. The 7th hearing of the trial of Onur Gencer, who organized an armed attack on the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir Provincial Organization building and murdered Deniz Poyraz, was held at Aliağa Şakran Prison Campus. When the court continued its decision not to let the lawyers with authorization certificates before the 6th hearing, the lawyers and hundreds of people who came to follow the hearing started a sit-in in front of the campus. Speaking at the sit-in, Özkan Yücel, the former President of the İzmir Bar Association, said that the theater was played in a courtroom where no one was present. Emphasizing that the court board was afraid of the truth, Yücel said, "This is not a trial. Those who protect the murderer have smeared Deniz Poyraz's blood on their hands, from the prosecutor to the law enforcement officers to the court board. This is a murder committed to maintain the political and fearful climate. We would have said this if we entered the hall. Even if they don't get it, we will resist and fight everywhere." AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE AND 9 YEARS SENTENCE The court sentenced Gencer to aggravated life imprisonment for "deliberately killing by design", to 4 years for "damaging property", to 2 years for "violating the immunity of residence" and to 3 years for "violating firearms law".
