Kurdish political prisoner being held in cell for months

	İSTANBUL - Nurettin Ildız, father of Ali Haydar Ildız being held in a cell alone for the last 5 months in Bodrum Type S closed Prison, told that his son can not exercise any of his rights as a prisoner.

	 

	Ali Haydar Ildız, who was arrested in the Nusaybin district of Mardin in 2016 after being detained on charges of "being a member of a terrorist organisation" and sentenced to life imprisonment was transferred to Bodrum S Type Closed Prison 5 months ago after being held in Mardin, Erzincan, Erzurum and Diyarbakır Prisons. Ildiz, who has been held in a cell since the day he was brought to Bodrum Prison, conveyed the violations of rights he experienced in a phone call with his family.

	 

	DEGRADING PRACTICES

	 

	Nurettin Ildız, who spoke with his son Ildız on the phone on September 5, was told that his son was under heavy isolation. Father Ildiz stated that his son was subjected to degrading practices on his way to and from the infirmary and the guards are searching inside of his mouth, said, "This is also a form of torture. They apply it to all prisoners in prison including sick prisoners. This is a degrading practice." Stating that his son is deprived of all his rights as a prisoner, father Ildız said: "He can not exercise any of his rights and he is not allowed to any social activities. How can a person be held in a cell alone 24/7? We want this violence to end. There is no jusitification for him to be held in a cell alone. It is an arbitrary practice of the prison director. There is a gap in the government and people take advantage of it. One prison director can turn a prison into hell by making decisions alone."

	 

	CALL FOR AWARENESS

	 

	Stating that what is happening in prisons is an indication of the hostility against Kurds, father Ildız said: "These practices are racist practices. It is fascism." Ildız called for awareness regarding the violations of rights in prisons.
