Political prisoners subjected to torture and strip search

	BATMAN - Families of prisoners Ramazan Turan and Selman Büyüktop applied to the İHD on grounds that their children were subjected to strip search and torture in prison.

	 

	Ramazan Turan and Selman Büyüktop, who were transferred from Urfa Type T No.1 Closed Prison to Çorum Type L Closed Prison on March 4, stated that they were subjected to strip search and torture when they spoke to their families on the phone. Ramazan Turan's father, Ekrem Turan, pointed out that 4 of his son's friends, who have been in the same ward with his son, who has been in prison for 6 years, were transferred to another prison hastily, and said, "They put them on the ring vehicle by force. They were not even allowed to take their belongings. The violence that started in Urfa continued the whole way to Çorum. 

	They were stripped searched when they got there. The fact that they went through a strip search is purely an attempt to damage human dignity." 

	 

	'PRISON ADMINISTRATION WILL BE RESPONSIBLE'

	 

	Father Turan stated that when they refused to be strip searched, their clothes were forcibly removed and his son was attacked by the guards. The Urfa Prison, which they called to get information about what happened, did not give them any information. They were able to learn which prison their children were in, after 4 days. Turan said: "Prisons are managed by "arbitrary laws". Torture, oppression, violence and inhumane treatment have become routine. If anything happens to my son, the prison administration will be responsible."

	 

	THEIR DRESSES WERE RIPPED OFF

	 

	Selman Büyüktop's father, Salih Büyüktop, said,

	"Every day a new one is added to the violations of rights my son is exposed to. He is in prison for 5 years and he was sentenced to 17 years and 6 months. They did not even allow them to take their clothes. The violence that started in this prison continued in the prison where Selman was transffered to. They kicked them in the head when they did not accept the strip search. They trampled them and gave a 15 day solitary confinement penalty."

	 

	THEY APPLIED TO IHD

	 

	Stating that they could get any news from their son for 7 days, Büyüktop said, "The prison administration  said that they didn't have information and then could not give information. Ramazan's family gave us information. Otherwise, we wouldn't know where he was." Büyüktop stated that him and the Turan family applied to the Human Rights Association (İHD) Batman Branch against these violations.
