HDP commemorates Kemal Kurkut

	ANKARA - Commemorating Kemal Kurkut on the 5th anniversary of his murder, HDP said, "The government has taken the accused policemen under protection with all its powers."

	Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) commemorated Kemal Kurkut, who was murdered by the police on March 21, 2017 Diyarbakır Newroz, on the 5th anniversary of his death. In a written statement signed by Ümit Dede, HDP Co-Chair of the Law and Human Rights Commission, those who murdered Kurkut and those who acquitted them were condemned. In the statement reminding that Kurkut was presented as a "suicide bomber" to the media and society, it was noted that Kurkut's murder was clearly a murder.

	In the statement, which stated that the photographs taken by journalist Abdurrahman Gök stoped the governor's lies about Kurkut being a "sucide bomber," the following statements were included: At that time, the Diyarbakır Governor's Office made a statement that a person who tried to blow himself up was prevented and the incident was being investigated. However, after the photo were shared  the truth revealed with all its clarity. While trying to enter the celebration area stripped to the waist, Kemal was killed by the police who shoot him in the back. The body of Kemal, who was only 23 years old and a student of the faculty of fine arts, fell to the ground in blood and the ambulance did not come for several minutes.“

	 

	'GOVERNMENT PROTECTS KILLERS'

	 

	In the statement, it was stated that the police who killed Kurkut were taken under protection by the institutions of the state, and that the Forensic Medicine Institute made efforts to cover up the murder. The statement said, “Since then, the government has taken the accused police officers under protection with all its powers. All state institutions, from law enforcement institutions to courts, from the Forensic Medicine Institute to the governor's office, continued to work hard to cover up the murder in question. And finally, acquittal decisions were given for the accused police officers. The decision of the local court to acquit the accused police officers, the report prepared by the ATK, the decision of the Court of Appeals to acquit the police officers being overturned which lead to a request of a prison sentence of 20 years to journalist Abdurrahman Gök, reveals a lot.
