Lawyers denied entry to Kandıra Prison following Gezer's suspicious death 2021-12-10 11:03:13 ISTANBUL - Lawyers who went to meet their clients in Kandıra Prison were not allowed in for a long time on the grounds that an unusual situation had occurred in the prison.   Garibe Gezer, who was in Kandıra No. 1 F Type Closed Prison and was systematically tortured, was found suspiciously dead in her cell. Upon hearing of the incident, the lawyers went to the prison and wanted to meet with their other clients in prison. But prison authorities did not allow lawyers to enter the prison. The lawyers, who kept a report of the situation, announced that they would file a criminal complaint against the authorities.   LAWYERS DENIED ENTRY TO PRISON   The report of the lawyers included the following statements: "On 09.12.2021, at 22.45, we came to the Kocaeli No. 1 F-Type Penitentiary Institution to meet with our clients as lawyers Veysi Eski, Jiyan Tosun, Beritan Kalbişen, Elif Taşdöğen and Jiyan Kaya. We requested information about our client Garibe Gezer, who was reported to have died in Kocaeli Penal Institution today. The officer, who declared that he was the Gendarmerie Outer Division Commander, informed that there was no authorized person until 23.38 and they could not reach him, and that he would not allow us into the prison. In the warning of the internal regulations, it was stated that there would be no meetings after 23.00 and that an unusual situation had occurred inside. Our request for a report was denied because there was no no one inside and the gendarmerie would not sign it in any way. For this reason, this report was written by us, the lawyers present here.”   The lawyers were later allowed into the prison when the public was informed about the death of Gezer due to public pressure.
