Prisoner with schizophrenia after torture is not released

	İSTANBUL - Erdal Özel, who was tortured during his arrest and later diagnosed with schizophrenia, is not released despite his many illnesses.

	Erdal Özel, who is being held in Tekirdağ No. 2 Closed Prison, which is on the list of sick prisoners of the Human Rights Association (İHD), is not released even though his health condition is getting worse. Özel, who has been imprisoned since 2006, lost his mental health after entering prison. Özel was diagnosed with severe schizophrenia and was treated at Bakırköy Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital between 2010-2011. Private, also suffering from heart, high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney. Despite all this, Special is not evacuated. Özel's sister, Kumru Akgül, drew attention to her brother's health and called for his release.

	TORTURE

	Akgül stated that her brother was transferred to many prisons after his arrest and that he did not have any illness before the prison process. Saying that his brother had a heart attack once during his detention, Akgül noted that his brother lost his mental health in prison. Stating that the state was responsible for this, Akgül said, "When they took Erdal into custody, they took him by torture. They injured his head by hitting the wooden sofa beds of the house. They tortured him a lot. Erdal lost his mind because of these tortures. When I spoke to him, she said, "I have a lot of pressure on me.”

	 Expressing that her brother was tortured with pig ties for 15 days after he was arrested, Akgül said, "Then they took him to a room with sponges for a week. They tortured him very severely. After that, they put him in a single cell and put him in isolation." Akgül, who brought her brother, said that he faced some violations during the treatment process of his brother. Akgül said, "My father spoke to the doctor at that time. The doctor only informed Erdal that they had injected him. They did not give any report on Erdal's health problem. They do not issue reports because they are state doctors.”

	Pointing out that her mother died before she could see her brother, Akgül said, "I have never seen it during the pandemic process. We want to see them with an open view. Enough of this pressure. There are thousands like her. I want peace. My mother died without seeing her. Other mothers should not be like this."
