Request of 34 times aggravated life sentence for defendant of Suruç bombing 2021-05-27 13:57:47 URFA – Expressing his opinion in the Suruç Massacre Trial, the prosecutor requested 34 times aggravated life sentence for defendant Yakup Şahin. The prosecutor also requested that the files of fugitive defendants İlhami Bali and Deniz Büyükçelebi to be seperated.   33 young men and women were killed in the suicide attack carried out by ISIS against those who were making a statement to the press at the Amara Cultural Center in the Suruç district of Urfa on July 20, 2015. They were going to take some toys to the children in Kobané. The 19th hearing of the case regarding the attack was held at Urfa 5th High Criminal Court. Families and attorneys of those who lost their lives at the attack, lawyers from the Urfa Bar Association, HDP MP Ayşe Sürücü and Suruç Co-Mayor Hatice Çevik who was replaced with a trustee was at court to observe the hearing. A limited number of people were allowed in the court room due to the pandemic.    The only detained defendant of the case, Yakup Şahin, who has not been brought to court until today, attended the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBIS). The prosecutor of the case expressed his opinion and requested 34 times aggravated life imprisonment for Şahin. The prosecutor also requested that the files of fugitive defendants İlhami Bali and Deniz Büyükçelebi to be seperated.
