Sick prisoner Kaya may lose his eye 2021-04-01 12:31:20   DİYARBAKIR – Sick prisoner Yücel Kaya from Elazığ Prison faces losing his eye because he is not being treated.   32 years old Yücel Kaya, who has been behind bars for the last 4 years in Elazığ No 1 High Security Closed Prison, risks losing one eye because he has not been treated. Kaya, who was arrested on the allegation of "membership of a terrorist organization" in 2015 when he was a university student, was released after a year and a half. Yücel Kaya, who was arrested within the scope of the second lawsuit filed for the same reason, has been detained in Elazığ Prison for 4 years.   Stating that his brother had serious health problems, Kaya's brother Özel Kaya said that the prison administration was insensitive to the situation. Saying that his brother has had problems with his eyes for nearly a year and a half, Kaya said that there is a risk of losing his sight in the future. Kaya stated that they could not obtain information about his brother's health status.   7 MONTHS WAITED FOR SURGERY   Stating that his brother was taken to Istanbul for surgery in March 2020 but was not operated on due to the pandemic, Kaya said that after staying in Metris Prison for nearly 7 months, he was sent back to Elazığ Prison without having the surgery. Kaya told that his brother was hospitalized twice in 15 days. Expressing that Yücel Kaya was held under quarantine twice in a prison cell for 10 days, Kaya stated that all sick prisoners in prisons suffers from serious illnesses.   'SICK PRISONERS MUST BE RELEASED'   Mentioning that being in prison alone causes many diseases, Kaya warned that the situation of sick prisoners may become more fatal in the future. Kaya, who called for the release of sick prisoners as soon as possible, said that he will apply to the Human Rights Association (IHD) Diyarbakır Branch for legal aid for his sick brother.
