Artists call for support for hunger strikes: Breaking the isolation is a must 2021-02-18 12:31:40 İSTANBUL - Underlining that the hunger strike in prisons have one demand and that is fraternity and peace, Kurdish artists  Rotînda and Seyitxan said: "Breaking the isolation is a must, it is a duty."   The hunger strike started by the prisoners in different prisons on November 27 against the isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Prison and the increased violations of rights in prison continues on its 84th day. Stating that the main demand of the strike is fraternity and peace, artists Rotînda and Seyitxan called for support.   Reminding that the hunger strike was started with the demand of lifting the isolation on Öcalan, Seyitxan said the hunger strike that started in prisons spreaded to the world. Seyitxan said: "Not recognizing the identity of the Kurdish people is an ongoing problem for years. The prisoners, and millions of people say that there is no freedom without Öcalan, that his freedom is their freedom. The freedom of Öcalan is the freedom of the Kurdish people."   DEMAND OF FRATERNITY AND PEACE   Saying that the demand of the action is the demand for peace and fraternity, Seyitxan said: “Isolation against Mr. Öcalan is an insult to the Kurdish people. It is an insult to justice. People are taking to streets against these insults."   THE YEAR TO FREE ÖCALAN   “The isolation on Öcalan is unacceptable. Saying that it is a duty to break the isolation in this sense" said Seyitxan added: “Kurds and their friends do not accept this isolation. Hunger strike actions are very delicate actions. So everyone should be united around this action. The isolation imposed on Öcalan means the isolation of democracy, freedom and justice. Everyone should approach and embrace the problem within the framework of this truth. If this voice is not raised in the streets, the isolation will not be broken. This year is the year of Öcalan's liberation" and he urged artists and intellectuals in Turkey to support the action.   'HUNGER STRIKES HAVE A HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE'   Greeting those on hunger strike, Rotînda underlined that the hunger strike action has historical importance and said: "The isolation on Mr. Öcalan is unacceptable.
