Former co-mayors of Derik sentenced to prison 2020-11-14 10:18:15 MARDİN - Final hearing has been held in the trial against 22 people who include former co-mayors of Mardin’s Derik district, Abdülkerim Erdem and Sabahat Çetinkaya, who were removed from office in 2016 and jailed for three years. The case files of 10 of the arrestees were separated from the rest during Friday’s hearing held at the 4th Heavy Penal Court of Mardin.   The court issued the following sentences for those standing trial for alleged “membership to a terrorist organisation”;   7 years and 11 months for co-mayor Abdülkerim Erdem,   6 years and 3 months for co-mayor Sabahat Çetinkaya,   6 years and 3 months for Abdullah Ecer   7 years and 6 months for Cihan Akar   6 years and 3 months for Mazlum Erek   7 years, 8 months and 15 days for Murat Özüçalışır   2 years and 1 month for Tacettin Aslan and Halit Efe each.   The court also sentenced Mürsel İnan to aggravated life imprisonment and 18 years and 9 months, and Hüseyin Aydın to 12 years and 6 months for allegedly “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state”.   Kadri Güneş and Fırat Çelik, on the other hand, were acquitted.
