'Mainstream doesn't do public reporting' 2020-11-10 14:55:42 ANKARA - Critisizing the media for not reporting the resignation of Berat Albayrak, Dr. Mesut Ayan said the mainstream media had turned into pro-government media and that is pathetic. Berat Albayrak's resignation from the position of Minister of Treasury and Finance was not seen by the government-related media. Albayrak's resignation was reported 28 hours after he announced his resignation from his social media account only after the Presidency Directorate of Communications made a statement about it.   Dismissed from Ankara University Faculty of Communication, Dr. Vahdet Mesut Ayan evaluated the situation of the media. Stating that the situation of the media in Turkey is pathetic, Ayan said, "No matter which country it happens, resignition of the Minister of Finance and Treasury, is newsworthy. But the media in Turkey can not report news unless they get permission from the government.   Stating that similar things have happened before during Gezi Protests and Roboski Massacre, Ayan defined the structure of the media as the media that recieves orders from a single center.   Adding that journalism as a profession and public broadcasting have been wounded by this, Ayan said: "This is a very important indication of the situation of the media in Turkey in our day. There are two different concepts in communication. One is public institution and the other is public journalism. All media organizations, whether they are public institutions or not, are required to do public journalism. Unfortunately, when we look at where journalism has come from, there is no public reporting there."
