Artist Benli was sentenced to 10 months for sweing his matress 2020-11-07 11:54:32 MARDİN - Artist Erkan Benli was sentenced to 10 months in prison for "damaging public property" for sewing his torn matress.   Artist Erkan Benli, one of the 70 people arrested on May 24, 2016 during the curfew in the Nusaybin district of Mardin, has recieved a disciplinary punishment of 8 days in solitary confinement for sewing his matress that was torn while he was being held in Tokat T Type Closed Prison. Benli, who allegedly caused “damage to public property,” was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Execution Prosecutor's Office.   Informing his family on the phone about the additional sentence, Benli said his notes on his days in Giresun Espiye Type L Prison and Nusaybin was confiscared by the prison administration. Stating that his books and letters were also not given back to him, benli said his notes on his days in Nusaybin was confiscated on grounds that he insulted a state official.   Arrested artist Erkan Benli was sentenced to aggravated life and 20 years and 3 months in prison as a result of the trial conducted within the scope of the Nusaybin Case.
