Application for a second Bar Association in Ankara 2020-08-21 16:13:23   ANKARA – Following the changes made in the structure of the bar associations, an application to the Turkey Bar Association Union was made for a second bar in Ankara. Ankara Bar Association Human Rights Center President Kerem Altıparmak said that the application, which he stated is against the Constitution, should not be put into process.   10 law institutions which decided to act together following the changes made in the structure of the bar associations, made an application to the Turkey Bar Association Union (TTB) for the establishment of the second bar association. However, the fact that that application was made with less than 2 thousand lawyers attracted attention.  Before the application, a press conference was held at the Ulucanlar Prison Museum Meeting Hall.   Attorney Eyüphan Korkmaz, who is a member of the founding board of the bar association to be established, stated that they have officially applied and that the establishment process has begun.   Korkmaz said, "As of today, the process of collecting signatures will just begin. We, as non-governmental organizations, wanted to come together and work together. If all being well, we will bring together 2 thousand lawyers together for our bar association.    The fact that the application was made before enough signatures were collected, caused discussions.   ALTIPARMAK: IT'S AGAINST THE LAW   Kerem Altıparmak, President of Ankara Bar Association Human Rights Center wrote that the application was against the constitution and warned TTB not to process the application from his twitter account. Altıparmak wrote: "This application is against the law and should not be processed. According to the law, the application is made with 2000 signatures. You can not just say let's apply and collect the signatures later. If the bars process this application, it will be against the law."
