Global number of cases come near 9 million 2020-06-21 13:59:13   NEWS CENTER - The number of Coronavirus cases across the world has surpassed 8.9 million while the pandemic has so far claimed more than 467,000 lives.   Total number of 8, 938,444 cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide and nearly 467, 111 people lost their lives according to the updated data on "worldometers" website.   TOP 10 COUNTRIES   The top 10 countries with the highest number of cases are listed as follows: USA 2,330,769; Brazil 1,070, 139; Russia 584, 680; India 412,788, England 303, 110;  Spain 293, 018; Peru 251, 338; Italy 238,275; Chile 236, 748 and Iran 202,584.   CASES IN THE MIDDLE EAST   The number of COVID-19 cases in the Middle East continue to rise across the region as cases were estimated to surpass 900,000 by Sunday. In total of 894,611 cases have been officially recorded across the Middle East. The worst hit countries are Iran and Turkey, as the other hard-hit countries are listed as Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Almost 10,000 have officially died in Iran and almost 5,000 in Turkey.   CROSSING POINTS OPENS BETWEEN TURKISH AND GREEK CYPRIOT SIDES    Cyprus has today begun to reopen crossing points between the Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides after being shut for more than three months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
